Visit Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge

We stayed at Plays Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge for a few days as part of a trip in this part of Costa Rica. Our experience of this idyllic spot was exceptional. We were collected by boat from Golfito and landed at the hotel's own jetty. During the trip out we never touched our bags, they just appeared at out room. A welcome touch as we weren't yet acclimatised to the heat and humidity. Playa Nicuesa is situated in second growth jungle, it was once a coffee plantation. Unless you were told you wouldn't know and a nighttime jungle walk was an interesting experience. Lots to see including Caymen and a Snail Eating Snake. Plus many creepy crawlies! On two days we had boat adventures on the gulf, brilliant. Snorkeling, bird watching, dolphin spotting, plus turtles. We went fishing and had a great morning catching Bonito which feed us and other guests like kings. The food here was great, the staff all friendly and approachable and the rooms were comfortable. Not quiet, mainly due to Howler Monkeys but that is fine. Party of the experience. We loved Playa Nicuesa. It will remain in our memories as a highlight of our Costa Rica adventures.

Amazing staff and great wildlife. Birding was excellent and being able to explore primary rainforest at your own pace is a real treat. We saw ten species of snakes in eight days…it was wonderful!!
