Experience a unique culinary adventure at Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge. Enjoy family-style dining as you gather around the beautiful hand-carved table and share experiences of the day (NOTE: While we will certainly miss the communal dining experience, we are adapting to the new norm so all guests will still enjoy our signature tropical cuisine prepared by Chef Edixon in appropriately spaced private tables, to respect social distancing protocols). Masterfully designed like a rustic treehouse, our open-air, canopy level restaurant showcases Costa Rican cuisine with an emphasis on fresh fish, tropical fruits and locally grown vegetables. Our 165-acre preserve abounds with fruit trees bearing mangoes, pineapple, oranges, lemons, papayas, water apples, bananas, and coconuts used to craft simple foods that celebrate the purity of the land and the bounty of the seasons.

Discover a tropical vacation experience with healthy, local cuisine paired with fresh fruit cocktails and sublime views of the ocean and coastal rainforest. You will enjoy three exceptional meals prepared each day by our talented chefs. Savor delicious local foods, such as coconut chicken and beef kebabs prepared with a mango and tamarind chutney. Catch your own fish from the Gulf and let our chefs create grilled creations of  yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi and red snapper. Savor fresh squeezed juices and salsas to enhance your food experience. Dive into desserts such as homemade pineapple pie and organic chocolate covered coconut, both ingredients sourced right here on the preserve! Vegetarian dishes and children's menus are available.

SAMPLE TWO-DAY MENU (vegetarian and child menu offered daily also)

DAY 1

Guests dine together at big beautifully hand carved wood dining table. Or, guests may dine alone upon request. (NOTE: While we will certainly miss the communal dining experience, we are adapting to the new norm so all guests will still enjoy our signature tropical cuisine prepared by Chef Edixon in appropriately spaced private tables, to respect social distancing protocols).
 

BREAKFAST

Every morning, buffet table is set with:
  • Fruit platter consisting of fresh tropical fruits (mango, banana, starfruit, papaya, watermelon)
  • Granola cereal
  • Homemade Sweet Bread/Muffins
  • Fresh squeezed fruit juice
  • Costa Rican coffee and assorted teas
 
Followed by the breakfast of the day:
  • Banana pancakes accompanied with bacon
  • Homemade blackberry syrup
 

LUNCH

  • Gazpacho Soup
  • Black bean and mixed vegetable Quesadillas with
  • Homemade pico de gallo salsa
  • Mixed Salad topped with hearts of palm
  • Fresh squeezed mango/watermelon/banana fruit juice
  • Dessert: Coconut cake and fruit
  • Costa Rican coffee and assorted tea
 

BOCA

The boca, Spanish for appetizer, is served at our bar each evening when guests gather before dinner to talk about their day´s adventures.
  • Ceviche/sushi/sashimi
  • Guacamole and chips
 

DINNER

  • Freshly caught fish (mahi-mahi, yellow fin tuna, red snapper, etc.)
  • grilled and topped with mango sauce
  • Carrots and spinach sautéed in ginger
  • Fried Yucca
 

DESSERT

  • Tres Leches (a traditional and popular Latin American dessert)
  • Costa Rican coffee and assorted tea

DAY 2

  • Patacones (Fried Green Plantains) served with fruit or spicy dipping sauce
  • Ginger cookies
 

BOCA

  • Patacones (Fried Green Plantains) served with fruit or spicy dipping sauce
 

DINNER

  • Coconut Curried Chicken
  • Local Chayote Summer Squash
  • Costa Rican Style Rice or Quinoa
 

DESSERT

  • Homemade Mango Pie with Homemade Ice Cream 
  • Costa Rican Coffee and assorted teas
